Exhausting...
D'oh... exhaust dropped off my Xantia last night
Well actually it didn't since the front-rear pipe was caught by the rear subframe, and the rear box on the estate has 2 mountings so it stays put. Looks like the stub has sheared off cleanly at the inlet to the (otherwise good cond) rear box, so I am going to get it off tonight and see if I can weld it back on. Have you seen the price of these things??? Rear box is £80 from GSF, £149 from National, and £200 from Citroen
Mind you that is cheap compared to the one piece front pipe / cat that is £324 from National. I daren't even look the price up from Citroen

KP i think Richard is saying the flange at the front of his rear box has come away/rusted through,
but i do agree if anyone needs to replace the down pipe to rear box de/ca tit,
last one i bought was about £36 squid from GSF
Richard what year/model is you XANT as i have got some brand new genuine OE exhaust parts, if you can find to OE part No. this would hewlp me identify the correct box (if i have one)
regards malcolm

Correct, Malcolm.citronut wrote:KP i think Richard is saying the flange at the front of his rear box has come away/rusted through,
The Cit part no is 1726H7 - although they do some other ones for older cars - cheaper maybe (but not much) part nos E12855F / E128C98. This fits all 1.9TD / 2.1 TD / HDi estates - but not the 1.9D or SD models.

Yes, I had the same thing happen to my car!
I also was amazed that it had gone, but that there was also a safety net to hold it in place I.E. that rear support bracket on the subframe, and the way it's mounted on the rear brackets.
Without that support bracket it would be a case of the rear silencer dropping onto the tarmac, and digging in with a lot of damage as a result!
The prices are not cheap, as I also found out!
Is that an indication that they do not go that often, or the fact that they are set high to stitch people up or both?

You should be able to weld the flange back on; managed to get about another 6 months out of the back box on my father's old Xantia estate by doing just that when it fell off.
I love the sound of the turbo with no silencer!

Exhausting
Hi Richard,
If your car is 1.9TD, I have a good rear box in the shed. I will look at it tomorrow, see if I can find any numbers to cross ref. If it is ok for you, you can have it---collected perhaps by this forums parts pick up idea. I am in Cwmbran.
