Xantia v6 blower
Hi all, I have a Xantia V6 1997 R reg.
I have looked at the threads for blower problems and tried to find the
right fix for my car,basically when the ignition is switched on the blower
will not work .There are 12 volts at the blower plug between the Black & Red wires,but no variation when you use the speed control. Should I look at the blower or start from the ignition switch.There are two green relays above the throttle pedal both click when ignition switch is turned, are they for the two rad fans or for the blower.

Hi Howard and welcome to the forum
You may just find this threaduseful.

Hi Howard,
No worries, finding an unvarying 1.25V there may point to a faulty A/C ECU or it could point to a faulty blower speed controller.
You cannot directly test the voltage on the orange wire with the blower speed controller disconnected as I suspect the output from the A/C ECU is open-collector, given the 820 ohm pull-up resistor on the blower speed controller. It is possible a faulty output transistor on the module could pull down the control line; it is connecetd directly to the bases of the output transistor pair.
You can easily test the blower speed regulator. Remove the blower from the heater box (three screws accessible by the pollen filter), then remove the motor from the housing to expose the blower speed regulator.
With reference to the picture below:

Using a multimeter on the 2K range (or preferably on the diode test range) measure between the terminal marked "Output" (actually the motor negative return) in the picture and the heatsink. If you hare using a meter with a diode test range you will see continuity (600ohms roughly) one way and an open circuit if you reverse the meter leads. If you see a short-circuit or a very low resistance whatever way the leads are placed, at least one of the transistors are short-circuit (both are in parallel).
The transistors can be further tested with a meter on the diode test range by placing the negative test lead on the Base ("B") of the transistor and the positive lead to the Emitter ("E") and Collector (Heatsink) in turn. Both ways you should see continuity in the region of 900 ohms. Reverse the lead polarity (i.e. Positive test lead on the Base) and you should read an open circuit between Base and Emitter and Base and Collector. Short Circuits or very low resistances anywhere indicate faulty transistors.
If that checks out OK, a fault in the A/C ECU may be present. This is very rare however and it is more likely to be a wiring issue between the ECU and blower speed regulator.
If the regulator is faulty Howard, I can repair it for you, or supply a new pair of transistors.
