Practical Classics feature an article on the CX GTi in the March 2009 edition

They like it... a lot by the looks of it...

Well worth a read

Seen it!

I felt the whole article misses any real bite and actual relevance to it's original
premise and 3 or 4 pages doesn't do any Cx justice, let alone a GTi Turbo.

Never mind, let's read the same things yet again about MG's or Triumphs
instead...

I saw that article also as I had to go somewhere, and had to wait I ended up buying the magazine.

It's part of a group test of several cars a Tata 613-3, Lotus Carlton, CX GTi Turbo, & a Jaguar XJ12.

So as CJ (didn't you used to be on Baywatch

) says it's worth a read, but as it's a group test then it covers all the cars, but not in as much detail as the test(s) would be if they were tested separately.

Picked up the magazine during lunch today, certainly an interesting read. Wouldn't mind one meself

I found it rather amusing that it's the March edition already

Further ahead that I've seen before, maybe this edition fell through a worm hole?

It would be a very intoxicating event for anyone to travel in or drive
a Cx GTi Turbo; not difficult to see why they liked it in the article
though there wasn't really a conclusion!

Very VERY rare car the s1 Cx GTi Turbo only being available for less
than a year before it had facelifted plastic bumpers. It's the one to
get; original looks with all the early growing pains developed out of
the design with the best petrol engine (as fast as it needs to be!)
and the best/most comfortable seats combined with THAT fab 70's
meets Startrek interior...

Kev, I adore these Turbos and have acquired a few along the way and
I aim NEVER to part with a single one!!

Try one, and if you can, buy one!!

It says something for how good it is I.E. the CX.

To be compared to other big cars.

Which have a V12, straight six twin turbo, and a V8.

Although the V12 (265bhp) in the Jag, and the twin turbo (377bhp) in the Lotus do have a lot of grunt.

Torque figures another indication of how quick, and relaxing a car is to drive, (torque is your friend) are good for the CX, as it's a lot more than the Tata, and puts up a good figure against the Jag.

While the Lotus is a torque monster!

I got aquainted with the Carlton when I had a Vectra - went to various shows. They are something else...

They are a beast of a car! And you think modern cars have engines shoehorned in....the Carlton is a true knuckle killer to work on looking at it. 3.6 litres of twin turbocharged old skool madness...

So very rare too. Have seen them fetch in the region of £15,000

There was a company which delivered to where I used to work, and what did they turn up in nine times out of ten, when they had to come to us, yes it was a Lotus Carlton.

They were only delivering small items, and maybe fancied a run out in it.

I think it was the directors car.

I used to buy pretty much all of the classic car magazines back in the day, but TBH i am sick to the back teeth of british classics like the MG and the moggy minor etc, i now only buy one if it has any cars of interest to me. Sorry if youve got one but i find the british classics so boring....

The only exceptions are some of the early MK1 fords..escorts etc, because they are so clean when they are restored i find them inspirational.

CX GTI Turbo......oh yes.....it looks awesome doesnt it.

Its a guy called Frugg's off the CX forum.
