Xantia MK2 estate HDi rear window wash

Unread post by lolingram »

My Xant MK2 estate rear window washer switch in fact causes only the front washing seqence; not rear (any more). Initially both front and rear would be activated. It would seem that there is a switched tap somwhere downstream of the washer pump that is no longer working.

Anyone know where this item lives?

Cheers

Hi, the direction front/rear washer is distinguished by the rotation direction of the washer pump. So the motor is powered with just reversed polarity. If the rear washer does not work but the front does, it should be due to some wiring problem.

Don't thinks so Karel....

Instead of the rear wash coming on, either BOTH do or (as now) just the front wash - with the rear wash switch activated. Perhaps there is a one way valve somewhere? If you are right, something really odd is happening.

Rear wipe works normally.

Thanks.

LOL,

I believe Karel is correct - there are two pipes coming out of the pump, and one rotation gives front and the other rear. That fact that you are getting both suggests that the pump has perhaps fallen apart internally. I doubt it's over expensive, so I'd just replace it.

Wilco and thanks both of you.

Happy new year.

The pumps are about £12.
Mine is the same now, only washes the windscreen.

I have been told that there are a pair of "Flapper" valves and that the use of incorrect (non-Citroen) washer fluid can damage these and cause the problem observed here.
