Stop and Go-Fan

A recent problem that i have in my Xantia, is that when the fan of the heating-system is put on "auto" the fan blows and stops and blows and stops and so on.
What could be wrong ?

Sounds like normal behavior for my fan. 'auto' means just that, it has a mind of it's own and it knows best.

But the fan blows for only 4 seconds or so and then stops and so on.
I never had this problem in my first Xantia Hdi 110

Sounds like you've got some gremlins in your electrics, and the dashboard will likely have to come out to find them. I think the blower is attached to the chamber that has the pollen filter in it on aircon models (behind the glovebox, passenger side). You could stick a multi-meter on the motor terminals and see whether intermittent power is reaching the motor and follow the intermittent power through the loom into the dash. If it isn't something easy to fix like a loose connection on the blower motor, the dash may have to come out, and that would not be a little job.

My Xantia HDi does similar things with its fan. It seems to blow softer than it did. Do all AC models have a pollen filter ? I was wondering if it was blocked.

Swifty yes they do, its situated underneath the glovebox.
You'll need to undo about 5 torx screw in order to remove the felt trim then either undo another 4 torx scerws (or more likely as its a late Xantia) slide the pollen filter cover out then pull the filter down out of its housing. If it has not been replaced for more than a year then be prepared for quite a lot of dirt etc.
