Relay problems?

Just the other day i have developed a crackling sound from under the driver side dash area. Sounds like a relay freaking out but everything is working as it should and there is no smell of burning or anything.

Ive tried finding a trend of when it happens to locate the possible cause but there isnt one.

Anyone have any ideas?

Being a plasticide Citroen - have you tried all sorts of small levering and punting on the dash area concerned - to reveal any wellknown "plastic noises" ... ?

It could well be the good old indicator stalk problem Vince. It goes a bit funny when its concats get dirty and the dust between the contacts becomes conductive. This makes the indicator unit tick.

Cure is to blow any dirt out of the indicator stalk with an air-line and all should then be OK.

There have been a few posts about thuis very issue in the past.

i agree with Jim also the wiper stalk can do the same

Ah i remember hearing about that when i worked at the shop.

If it was that, would it do it at sporadic times or just when you used the stalk?

Sounds very feasible....

definatly sporadic

my daghters has been doing this at times but not at the mow

yes sporadic - and it tends to reset once you just touch the stalk.

If you ignore it long enough, the switch can overheat and have an internal meltdown (lots of smoke from the steering cloumn). Then you really have to replace it!
