Xantia 2 TD Brakes

Hi,
I don't use the Xantia as much now--the Punto auto being easier to drive. Pat likes Punto -easier for her to get into--Cit is too low. Sometimes when I do use the Cit, when I reverse out of my parking space, ther are NO brakes when I decide to want to stop. This is on first brake pedal application---on subsequent frienzied panic stabs at pedal, all is ok. Brakes work fine then all the time I use the Cit.
Abs is acting as it should---no lights on. I changed the 4 corner spheres recently--did citerobics. Could this be air in braking system??. I had this with my VSX 2 litre, but NEVER with my old 94 Xant td-with no abs. Seems to point to abs stuff- by coincidence ?. Would the non changing of antisink sphere be contributory?

Have you bled the brakes?

I concur with Steve Greg, sounds very much like air and a good bleed should resolve the issue. Be sure to bleed a good amount, especially from the back brakes.

If bleeding does not fully resolve the issue, then replace your front flexi hoses.

What if the accumulator were flat?

Just wondering if it were marginal, whether the way reversing "pumps up" the rear, might be temporarily taking fluid pressure away from the brakes.

In particular the anti-sink sphere which is the accumulator for the rear brakes.
