Can you do this with a Xantia/C5/C6 ?

I've not tried it but I wouldn't think it would work on those models anyway as the GS/DS have much greater suspension movement available plus there will now doubt be the matter of where the centre of gravity is. The DS has a much wider front track than the rear which must help with this trick.

I would have thought that if it was possible then Citroën would be telling everyone about it, after all wheels falling off the back of your car when driving along is a daily hazard for everyone isn't it?

You can in a C6 but not C5 or Xantia.
I was always too chicken to try it in my GS

Older SAABs can do it too.

Happened in a Beetle belonging to a friend. Rear wheel overtook her on a country lane.

Exactly that. Mr. McPherson ruined that for the Xantia and C5, presumably the Xm too although I may well be incorrect in that assumption.

I have to say that I still hold the GS in very high regard, wonderful little car.

this was only possible with the suspension on its highest setting, as this makes it ridgid, i told a freind about changing a wheel on a hydraulic cit without a jack, by placeing the opposit wheel on a curb with suspension on high it will lift the other cornner of the ground,

one day he came back to his car in battle high street to find he had a flat rear tyre, so he tried what i had said, he noticed an elderly couple sitting in there car over the road, and found with his car on high it would just rock with hit finger under the cornner of the bumper, so he got his frail wife to make it look loke she was strainning to lift the car, whilst he changed the wheel, the couple in the other car looked amazed

Brilliant.

You can change a wheel on a Xantia or XM by putting it on high suspension and putting a log or some other solid material under the appropriate jacking point and then letting the suspension down to its lowest point. As it drops the opposite wheel will lift the desired one via the anti roll bar.

had a flat tyre on the left back on C5-1
noticed this only after few weeks - it was fine in normal driving - only on motorway I noticed some vibration - like unbalanced wheel.
So I am know what to do if I got any other tyre flat - move it to the left-back and drive home...
I usually drive alone - probably if you have someone on the back seat it will be different.

appart from the rear wing/wheel arch might stop removal of a rear wheel with car at its lowest setting,

How can that be then?

Take a whyeel of any car and it will drag the drum/disc along the road. The only reason a Citroen can do it in high is because the suspension locks into high, so the wheel can not hit the road as its already at full travel.

Unless early Saabs had no suspension at all?

I always use the suspension to make light work of removing wheel for servicing:

Crack-off wheel bolts; suspension to Service High; wind jack up to meet jacking point; suspension to Low; remove wheel. Reverse the steps when refitting - torque bolts properly.

Saves a load of winding when all 4 wheels need to be removed (one at a time!

)

Must waste some fuel though unless you use the pressure relief bolt to let the system down surely?

all the DS had was a two footed stand with an adjustable tube flattend at the trop with a hole through it, put the car on high adjust the hight of the stand, slot the hole over a peg on the sill, lower suspension, both wheels on one side off the ground

I once changed both wheels on one side ,by settting the car on high,putting the jack under ,then setting it to low , but in doing so the car "dumped" a load of fluid

What would be the reason for
that ??
