2004 scenic cold start glowplug question

Hello. I have a 2004 Scenic 1.5Dci. It is the one with the push button start. I have noticed on cold mornings it takes a while to start. The glowplug light comes on when the start button is pressed, but there doesnt seem to be any delay before the car tries to start, to give gthe glowplugs time to warm up. On my other diesel key start car I have to wait for the glowplug light to extinguish before I start it, otherwise it will just crank for a while, rather than starting on first flick of the key once the plugs are warm.

Is this normal for a push button start scenic, or should there be some automatically built in delay on a cold start to give the plugs time to warm?

I'm not sure I fully understand your problem ?

Usually you watch the glow-timer lamp and then ONLY push the button at the moment the lamp extinguishes.
This is also the common approach used for ages on earlier diesel cars where the ignition starter key must be turned.
Otherwise there woud be no sense in having this lamp at all.

I believe that the auto-lockout (or delay) on the startbutton could be an added feature not found as standard on all models.

the problem is you cannot just have the ignition on ready to start like you can with a key start car. As soon as you put the card in and push the start button, the engine tries to start. There is no way to allow the light to extinguish before starting as it is all done automatically

So are you saying that when you put the keycard into the ignition, the dash lights etc don't come on until you press the start button?

If the engine tries an engine start as soon as you push in the card, then something is at wrong.

If YOU try an engine start as soon as the card touches its endstop, then YOU are at wrong
