You can check a lot of things on it including details about driving in Europe, and what to do in the event of an accident.

This can be checked by anyone on this database, but on a basic level compared to all the comprehensive information that can be seen by the employees at the MID.

Therefore you can make sure your own car is on it, or even another car, say if you are at the scene of an accident, and a driver is acting strangely, and it appears something is up with them.

So he checked it using this section of their web site, and found it was not listed. After that he was straight on the phone to his insurance company to complain, and the data was now in the end on the MID database.

If it had not been attended, to then he would have alerted the ANPR cameras whilst out driving, and then would have had a lot of stress to deal with, to sort this out due to some lazy clerk at the insurance company.

After all we pay them, you would have thought that they could at least do this simple task to keep their customer happy, instead of trying to P**S him off.

Unfortunately (or is it typically?) the database can be slow to be updated. It took appx 10 days for mine to appear.

As you say, it's not clever if the ANPR system flags you as uninsured. Worse scenario I read about was a woman and kids were sent to find their way home by other means as the police that stopped them would not all them to drive home because she couldn't prove insurance was valid at the time.

Was a time when police gave you a producer (HORTI) but with the new database, some take great pleasure in disallowing you your rights if they cannot be proven there and then. Shoot first, ask question later mentality is rife now. There is no innocent until proved guilty any more - we're all "suspects" instead.
