hi all, basically i have been having problems with the steering as follows..
-the steering feels a bit nervous
-the steering wheel starts to shake at around 80 mph
-the wheel sticks on full lock and will not cycle back towards center
-i can feel all the bumps in the road through the steering wheel
the c.v joint on the drivers side is knocking and i have recently had the hubs changed that came with discs ( breakers job) is my steering rack knackered?
hope someone can shed some light on this!!

The CV joint itself can cause locking of the steering wheel.
A knocking CV joint is a potiential dangerous fault, as the CV joint may suddenly no warning lock the wheel during drive, or the driveaxle may snap.
I'd prepare for a replacement asap.
Try ask for a CV joint at new parts dealers. If the CV joint can be replaced separately, it will be available.
If not, you must have a new (or recon) complete axle assembly.

i had both drive shafts replaced and two new tyres, basically the joints were that knackered there was movement in the drive shaft that caused the tyres to become sort of oval shape ! no more bumps, no more vibration and steering 'looseness' cured!
I was originally put off the idea of changing both shafts after looking on cvjoints-direct, they wanted £150 per shaft plus £50 surcharge on each shaft.
But at my local garage they managed to source them for £84+ vat each so why such a difference?

ALWAYS shop around. It pays. No matter what you are after.
Genuine parts from dealers always have been, always are, and always will be, the most expensive shopping option.
With only the rare exception that confirms the rule ...
