There should be some adjustment possible with the exhaust. My frontpipe was hitting the rear of the subframe in 1st gear and a bit of 2nd, the metal is thin in that area and adjustment with molegrips gives a lot more clearance. Its not ideal but saves breaking the joins on the exhaust.

Slayer, if the exhaust is knocking on the subframe, you need to replace the lower engine mounting. If this has gone soggy or collapsed, the engine is out of line and there will be too much movement at the bottom end, causing the downpipe to knock on the subframe.

No amount of feckling with the exhaust will cure this! I know, I've been there a few years ago. If you do not do it, the baffles in the centrebox of the exhaust break and then the can snaps. Starts to get expensive.

Yes, that's what it is. I'm going to get the exhaust done (it's blowing a bit, and knocking a lot more when hot since the garage tried to adjust it) as well as the engine mounts. I look on it as an investment!

I'm also going to get the height correctors and roll corrector looked at, since the car is doing pretty much what it wants at the moment! Well, perhaps not quite, but it seems to lean to the left most of the time. I'm pretty sure the roll corrector is jammed - I can make the car lean both ways by pulling the ends, but it only seems to correct some of the time when the end is released.

I don't think it's ever gone to intermediate height since I've had it (straight to high I think - would it be so incredibly bouncy in intermediate?), so I think the height correctors need a look as well.

On the plus side we did 390 miles to, around and from the Lake District last weekend, and it never missed a beat. Picks up speed invisibly on the motorway, and fun on the twisty stuff - doesn't feel nearly as big as it is, except for when I come to park it. My girlfriend was impressed with the quality of the ride on the motorway, but complained about cornering speeds straight after breakfast on the Honister Pass...

Returned 29mpg, which I don't think is too bad. The journey up was fairly rapid, and mountain roads aren't ideal for good economy. That was on regular unleaded too - it's been filled with Tesco Super now, for 94.9p / litre. That seems INCREDIBLY reasonable for someone used to buying diesel, and the Activa seems smoother when revved too! :D

Hello James, if your height correctors are seized, they are rebuildable, much as Citroen and garages say they are not. You just need to be careful taking them apart.

I have done a couple now and not had any problems with leaks.

Changing the bottom engine mounting bush requires the longer driveshaft to be removed, the alloy mounting unbolted and the old bush pressed out and the new bush pressed in. IT CANNOT BE DONE IN SITU, much as a few members on here have stated. Mis-alignment and damage to the bush will happen otherwise.
