1998 Scenic 1.9 diesel, STARTING PROBLEMS.

Unread post by beckster »

Hi,
Recently my 1998 Scenic failed to start. When I turn the key the starter sounds like it is getting a small burst of power, but then immediately dies (like a very flat battery). I have tried a new battery but still the same thing happens.
One thing I have noticed is, that the positive battery lead gets warm (which means there must be current going somewhere) after a few start attempts. Also, If I try to start with the lights on, they die (along with all the other electrics) immediately
Could this be caused by a wire leading to the starter, earthing and diverting power away from the motor? Or could it be a bad earth? (the lights wouldn't die if It was a bad earth, Would they??)
Thanks for any advice.
