C5 2.2 Hdi - Cambelt change + Waterpump ?

Unread post by KevMayer »

It's time for a Cambelt change on my 2.2 HDi C5.

Is it best to change the water pump at the same time ?

Is it a DIY job. My local Citroen Specialist quoted £200 inc VAT.

Cheers, Kev

I'd say so. It does appear to be perceived wisdom in the fraternity and I have just gone along with it and had the lot done - belts, tensioners, water pump, pulley along with a full service and a few other bits and bobs.

My cambelt had been changed at 100,000 miles, it appears, but the tensioner was about to cash in it's chips. As the service record for the car gave no positive indication that it had been done I thought it a cheap insurance to have it done by someone trustworthy.

For the minor additional cost, go for it. The peace of mind is well worth it.

As for DIY-ing it - read through some of the related posts and see if you feel happy tackling it. It all depends on your experience and competence.

My excuse is indolence :D

I've had my Cambelt changed on my C5.

In the end I took it to my local Citroen dealer.

For a new Cambelt, Tensioner, Water pump, Auxiliary belt and Aux belt tensioner. Plus new coolant/antifreeze they charged £395.

I didn't think that was too bad for main dealer prices.
