Mk1 & Mk2 1.9TD exhaust pipes

Unread post by MikeT »

I've looked at a few online catalogues but I can't see any mention of them being different. Does anyone know for sure, I'm hoping they're the same?

That ones for the 2.1 TD & 2.0 HDi though, not the 1.9
I think the reason it says 1997 - 2001 is because they only began producing the 2.1 TD Xantia in 1997!

I changed my bros exhaust on his 19 TD and its exactly the same as my 2000 petrol didn't notice any difference at all even the cat is the same, perhaps it could be the hangers are slightly different spacing.

perhaps this would have been a better link

The only real difference is an early MK1 being catless.

If i were you i would get the catless one :)

there is less to go wrong with it and rust and it is freer flowing :)

Or just bob to scrappies and see if they have any good ones on them and just get one of them :)
Should only be about 20-30 squids new mind :)

I've got the exhaust already, I just want to know if it's the same as my MK2's exhaust.

Why? Diesels don't need a CAT to pass the MoT (course literally, cars need ordinance fitted so it can be tested, I fancy some anti-Vectra missiles myself :D )

For an MOT you could have even no silencers on the exhaust as long as it didn't smoke too much at full revs.

i have thought a few times about this and taking it in with the revs limited to say 3k to save engine stress and all :)

Mk1 & Mk2 1.9TD exhaust pipes

Unread post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
The de-catted pipe offered by GSF at around £35 will fit MK1 and Mk2 Xantia TD 1.9's. Mine is more economical and is better on te acceleration---no cat to strangle the flow of exhaust gases.:-)

that much I doubt lol it would be too noisy plus the emissions would be too high not like the old days when anything went through as long as it was road worthy ( there is always a price to pay for technology ) even though other countries don't give a toss like India/China to mention just 2 :)

I'd quite happily bet £5 that a Warmed up Xantia running on Veg with no cat or backbox would pass the emmissions test ;)

Specially if its had an italian Tune up and as always with a xantia a new airfilter before the MOT :)

Diesel emissions test are nowhere as stringent as petrols, I think you'd have to seriously abuse a diesel to get it to fail on that. As for the silencer removal, that has no effect on emissions but might fail on excessive noise, dependant on attitude of tester.

Anyway, we digress. I've just had a quick look at my MK2 exhaust and it looks the same shape except it's in two pieces instead of the one long way, joined in the middle. I wonder how makes the two piece exhaust and why?
