My daughter had a problem with her Clio two months ago when the driver side seat mounted side airbag deployed for no reason. Fortunately she was just setting off so was not driving at any speed but she was pretty shocked by it. Renault are not accepting anyliability for the problem and are insistaing that there has been an impact that has caused the deployment. Even though we have a witness that saw the incident and has given us a written testimony to say there was no impact Renault accept no liability and have sent the airbag computer to Bosch for testing. That was eleven weeks ago and we still have no response and the car cannot be driven.
The car has a history of electrical problems related to engine management so it is likely the two are somehow related but does any one else have an experience of an unwanted airbag deployemtn whether it be driver, passenger, side or curtain bag?

A Citroen C5 owner once reported a deployed side airbag - during drive
This was later traced to be caused by a sloppy ICE installation.
Any tampering with the cars electrical system is a potiential danger to existing electronic equipment fitted. Especially in modern cars computerised systems with data cabling taking the place of the former on/off switch controlled cabling for lights, relays etc.
Even correctly connected consumers to existing power lines may be a problem, because of overloading existing precisely rated wirings.
Related problems are unwanted high current paths (from kilowatt stereo sets) causing strange voltage drops both in chassis panels and heavy feed wires.
These voltage drops are more than likely interpreted as disturbing "data" signals in sensitive computer systems.
You should therefore firstly look for ANY homemade installations - or traces of such, as these are known problem makers.
Secondly the heavy wiring involved with battery/starter and battery/engine/chassis earth points are known to hide many problems.
All cars these days also have distibution/junction boxes for both the +12V power and the chassis earth lines.
These are always potiential trouble makers, as they will instantly cause large sections of circuits to drop out in case of malfunctions or bad assembly quality.
You may wish to try an automotive electrics specialist garage instead of your Renault garage. Your Renault garage have people educated in Renault specific details.
Auto electricians knows about ANY electric problem known to develop in ANY make of modern cars. And they are usually cheaper ...
Wish you luck.
