Megane misfiring at idle

Unread post by fodtommo »

Hi all - can anyone help with my mums (98R 1.6e 8 valve K7M engine) megane problem?

Car had to have a new engine recently. Big ends went on old one - not enough oil..........

Replacement unit from local breakers - very good company who sold it with a supposed 58k on the unit - I have no reason not to believe them having found them excellent for many years.

When the new engine was installed by her local garage (no good if you ask me - but she wont be told!) the following problem has become apparent:

Car starts fine but idles with a misfire. This means its initial pick up is poor - however once revving its fine - pulls like a mountain goat!! through all gears but pulling off is difficult requiring lots of revs.

It has been back to the garage who put it on krypton tester and could find nothing wrong.

They changed the crank sensor, checked and sealed joints on the inlet manifold.

I substituted the coils for the old ones that were fine on the last
engine.

None of this has made any difference.

There is possibly a small leak on the exhaust manifold gasket and delinately one where the downpipe joins the exhaust as garage have not seated it squarely on the flange (I said they were crap!)

I had thought of the temp sensor!

Little pipe from inlet manifold to MAP sensor is fine.

Should i get somone to check for fault codes - if so who renault dealer?

PLEASE HELP!!! its driving me mad!

These are the tracks to follow.
I suspect exactly the MAP sensor as the symptom to your decription is exactly a bad vacuum ignition advance.
Check the cabling, connector and hose to the MAP again, again & again.

Possilby one of your ignition coils is on the way out. i had a similar issue with my Scenic. seemed to misfire like a git when idleing but when revving above 2000 it was fine. :)
