405 MI16 Idle Problem

Hi
I have a 1990 MI16 that stalls all the time when the engine is warm, it's also quite 'jerky' driving along at 50-60kph or so
i think it may be the fuel filter ,but hopefully someone might have some advice for me

It's either your plug leads; best found by removing the centre cover on the rocker cover and starting the car at night and slowly raising to a fast idle, then look down the area beneath the cover for the tell tale sparks. Or, where the LT plug goes into your coil.
This plug contains + as wll as - terminals. Grime gets down inside the actual socket as well as onto the terminals of the plug and causes it to short across at a certain load. Usually, if the car starts to stutter, a stab on the accelerator will cause it to just do a slight stutter & then rev quite freely, am I correct?
To rectify, remove the plug and wash the plug <b>and the socket</b> with WD40 or similar. Wash WD off with petrol using a paint brush to be sure the WD and all the grime is totally removed. Blow dry using compressed air if available.
Inspect before refitting coil back to car & if in doubt as to whether the grime & scum have been totally removed, repeat the cleaning as many times as is necessary to do so. Once cleaned, coat with silicone grease before refitting to prevent the problem from recurring in the future.

My engine used to do this at idle and it was running lean so I screwed the screw in a bit on the air flow meter.
