42k miles, M reg, full service history, 1.9TD SX, 5 door, new front tyres, small dent in one of the doors. Any ideas as to what I should sell it to a friend for?

That's a very good mileage and it's an Sx so ABS and lekky windows all
round. I'd say it's worth a bit more than 450 actually. Saw a smart but higher
miles (150k) P plater SX go for 600 last week in a private sale (not ebay).
Everything's only ever worth what somebody is prepared to pay which is why
ebay appeals to folk that haven't a clue what to ask. Check completed listings
on ebay for similar age/mileage Xantia and try to take a reasonable average
- difficult as many equivalent cars will have 150-200k miles.

There cant be many around with 42k on the clock, i would expect a decent well used Xantia of that age to go for about £450/500 quid, yours should be pretty exceptional condition for age and would make about £7-750 on ebay. Worth more quite possibly but people are not scared by 'high' mileage these days and would prefer a newer car but with more miles.
