As the aroma of barbeque charcoal wafts across the estate............... I am still inwardly fuming over the latest retail crime. The quest for reasonably priced veg oil reached a peak with the discovery of Soyola(!) in Tesco- weighing in at a mere 80p/litre- excellent, I loaded up with as much as there was on the shelf. An additional satisfaction was the perceived performance boost over rival veg oil offerings- the future was bright. Return 're-fuelling' trips were less successful, on several occasions they were blanks as it became evident that other diesel owning shoppers had spotted it. Yesterday, it reappeared on Tesco's shelves at, wait for it...... £1.19/litre!!! Is that the clearest example of supermarket profiteering in some time??! Don't attempt to convince me that this is a justifiable increase due to rising production costs!!
Where to next?? Did anyone else catch the website Quentin mentioned on his prog last night? I only saw part of the programme due to Her Indoors finding something even more important to watch- (what could be more important than the cost of running a diesel)

That soyola was the stuff I was buying at my local Tescos'es at 80ppl.
If Ive got a bit of time I'll pop in mine and see if the price has gone up. After I cleared the shelf of Soyola the next best was grapeseed oil at about 85/90ppl - seems to run well. Though I only used about 25% grapeseed.

The best way to do it really is to get hold of a Makro/Bookers card from your place of work if thats possible or aquire a new friend that has one

I never got a chance to try the soyola in my frying pan as its been out of stock for over a month.

Tescos up here and in Winchester used to do Pura for 56ppl, was rarely in stock (some other xantia owner in the area must have got there before me).
Now it's always in stock, though at 108ppl, still cheaper than tesco's own, but not as cheap as costco

I didn't think Makro were that cheap for veg oil the last time I was in.

Actually by the time you added VAT on, Tesco was probably a cheaper option.

veg oil is a NON vat product

Even at £1.19litre it still works out cheapre than diesel.
Just wish i could have stocked up more on it when it was 60p/litre and the like.

I was out doing a job earlier and found a petrol station earlier that sells rapeseed PPO for €0.99/litre (diesel is relatively cheap at €1.40 in the same place). What's that, about 80p a litre?

I only noticed the PPO pump after I'd filled up with diesel, as its set away from the forecourt. Typical.

It's about 50 miles away from where I live, but I'll definitely fill up next time I'm in the area.

That is scandalous. More expensive than diesel...

But surey that must have been for the finest, gold plated, fur lined ocean-going stuff rather than bog-standard rapeseed-based vegetable oil...

Last time I was in there organic sunflower was cheaper than Asda own brand rape seed oil
