xantia 1.8 runs when you have dis/re connected crank sensor

Car will spin over well on starter motor, but doesn't fire. If you disconnect the crank sensor and reconnect it, it goes. It doesn't describe that as a regular starting procedure in the handbook. What can be wrong, apart from a bad connection at the sensor?

Sure your handbook has'nt lost the page on this start procedure ?

Obviously there is a problem with the sensor or its cabling. Try replace it. Its not that expensive as genuine part

It may be worth taking the sensor out and cleaning any crud or "whiskers" on the pick-up on the sensor. If there are any "whiskers" on the sensor and they are metallic, it may well point to another problem. As Anders said, an new unit may work wonders.
