Transplanting Mk2 seats into a Mk1

Unread post by red_dwarfers »

My drivers side pretensioner and seat raising and lowering whatsit are both knackered.
Down the scrappy they've got a Mk2 W reg Xantia, providing that this is in the same colour/material as mine would the Mk2 seats fit into my Mk1?
Are the pretensioners different?
I also gather that the Mk2 has side impact airbags, is it possible to retrofit these into mine?

Cheers
Kev

Hi Kev,

Short answer: yes, long answer: Yes but with reservations.

My post here about fitting MK2 leathers into a MK1 will give you all the answers you need. Just ignore the electrical bits apart from the pre-tensioners.

No, the MK2 side airbags can't be retrofitted easily. I guess if you got the MK2 airbag ECU and all the wiring and cound fit a passenger side airbag on the dash (you'd need to fit a MK2 dash complete) and the passenger defeat switch you could but what's the point and more to the point how would you test it

I would think very carefully before fitting Mk2 seats. I'm about to get rid of my W plater almost entirely because the seats are so bad.

:o MK2 leathers are wonderful Richard as are the fabric seats in my MK2 Activa. I cannot comment on any other types of MK2 seats though but MK1 fabric seats are very good in all models and very hard wearing with the exception of Alcantara seats.

My MK2 leathers are the only seats that in any car that don't give me "numb bum" after 150 miles :D

The bits that have failed on your seats Kev, are usually quite easily repairable. If you look, you will most likely find welds have failed or cracks ahve developed. A few minutes with the MIG sees it all good again, after removing ALL flammable material and the pretensioners of course

I've got a set of seats and matching door cards that I'm not sure what
I'm going to do with off a s2 which DON'T have side airbags:

They're clean, ODOURLESS and don't have tears or burns or kiddy marks
on them; the 'bruises' in the pictures are where they've been standing on
one another in the back of an XM...

- what do you need?

Is Alcantara the one with the suede/pretend suede bolsters? That's the ones I have. Not only has the driver's one developed a hole but the frame has pushed its way through the padding on both front seats.

It's done 180k miles and I'd say there's no shame to the seats except that my old S1 Xantia has managed a similar mileage without the seats exhibiting any signs of wear at all.

They're the ones. The worst seats ever in a Xantia

They are shockers Richard. They wear fro England (France?) and fall apart. I had the same problems as you with the Alcantara ones in my estate.
