C5 winter tyres and new rims

Unread post by GB »

Need to get a set of 16" steel rims and a set of winter tyres for our planned 2600 miles trip across continental Europe in December.

Any ideas where to get steel rims from (apart from my local Citroen stealer)? Are they interchangeable with any other manufacturer (stud pattern)?

Also, any winter tyre recommendations (or tyres to avoid)? I am looking at getting the Falken Eurowinter HS-437 215/55 R16 93H at £56 a pop, which seems very good value.

Cheers,

Have you tried the local breakers for wheels?

Why do they need to be steel?

Yes, I made a phone call this morning - I was quoted £40 each with some cheap used tyres (which I don't need anyway). New 16" steel rims are £32 each from the main stealers...

Anyway, I may check my local stealers to see whether they have any left over changeover wheels (from alloy wheel upgrades).

Just to keep the cost down - prefer to spend more on tyres than on wheels that are going to be used once a year for a fortnight.

Right. Good plan.

You might have a better chance of Alloys on eBay.

There was a guy offering a set of alloys (nice ones too) for £200 (collect only) with three good tyres and one part worn, on one of the other Citroen forums.

Here
They will be gone by now unfortunately.

Try putting a post in the "For Sale & Wanted" forum. Might get a better reponse.
