hi
some vandals have smashed the windows of my poor little mark one (J-reg) Clio.
I have managed to source some replacement glass from a breakers yeard but cannot fit the windows.
I have removed everything from the inside of the door, but am unable to 'pop' the casing. It appears to be thoroughly glued down.
How do I replace the windows?
A quick response would be appreciated now the weather has turned to rain again!
Many thanks
Matt

I have no idea how the construction is of a Clio door.
What casing are you talking about ?
Is it a moulded plastic cover that fits over the regulator mecahnism ?
In most cases it is held in place by use of double sided sticky tape. There is no time in modern car production to wait for a glue to settle or harden.
Usually a door is split up in "layers" :
1) outer layer which is the painted steelconstruction
2) waterproof membrane, which may be a thin foam sheet, a simple plastic foil, or a moulded plastic structure to cover the entire door.
3) inner layer which is the door card of various construction to provide some sound proofing and a nice looking finish
the membrane is often fitted using strips of self adhesives
the doorcard is mostly fitted using only 2-5 screws for door and mirror handles/levers and several plastic poppers, which are simply levered free using a large bladed screwdriver.
It is not un-common to sacrifice parts of the membrane, because it is not possible to avoid it breaking up while trying to free it off the glue. The simple solution is to cut large sections out before smaller bits are vanished. Then you simply refit the lager parts using double sticky, and packaging tape to cover the cutted edges. The main idea is to maintain or re-create the waterproof membrane to avoid build up of meldew on the doorcards.
