You need an Autoleads PC9-109 cable and a Sony head unit with the little blue joystick connector on the rear.Penguin wrote:My Xantia (Mk 1) has had a sony installed by a previous owner and I was looking at replacing it again with something that will play MP3s. Is there any way I can get a stereo to work with the steering wheel controls?

Whilst on the subject of radios.
my xantia estate MK2 has a head unit that came with a manual which says that the head unit should have a cd changer in the boot, I think I may have been stiffed on the cd changer, somebody has possiably nicked it.
Citroen want £500.00 for a new cd changer I have a Blaupunkt head unit radio/cassette, does anyone know of the make of a compatable cd changer please?
£500.00 does seem a little extorsionate/expensive.
The problem being finding something that will work with the steering wheel controls.
regards Nigel.

Nigel,
If the cabling is in place in the boot for the changer then it has probably been installed but removed by a previous owner. Citroen generally don't install cabling for future upgrades.
Suggest looking round scrap yards for a xantia changer, it would be much cheaper and will work with your steering wheel controls. ( remember to get the cabling if you don't have it already )

FOWMC, whilst searching for info on my query I came across this http://steve.jellybaby.net/xantia.htm I don't know if it will help you or not, but might be worth a read.

Talking about radio codes.....
My mate has a Pug 405 a few years back....he didn't have the radio code & the the radio decoders we got from the Internet wouldn't give the correct code...maybe the code had been changed at some point
We were determined to crack this radio without paying any cash....after a bit of research on the net we found out how to read the chip in the radio that holds the code.
The radio was took apart & the small chip (8mm x 8mm) was de-soldered from the radio....we got hold of a program that would read this chip via the printer port on a PC....eventually after soldering wires to the legs of the chip & poking them into the holes of the printer port we did manage to read the chip & get the code.
The chip was re-installed & the radio put back together.
The radio was put back into the car & the code entered....but it didn't work
....we reversed the code (put the last number in first etc) & low & behold the radio sprang into life
So if you're handy with a soldering iron & have a week to waste give it a go....
It was fun at the time tho....

Xantia radios are not the most reliable in operation, and you often find they have been out for repair, and the code is written on them.... Not in the case of Mk2 however, so I bought a Kenwood headunit instead for about £50 - it reads MP3 discs, so is actually more useful than a CD changer in the boot that only holds 6 discs (10 or so albums to a MP3 disc), and it works with the steering wheel controls. You do have to labouriously rip all the CDs though...
It's also a bit of challenge getting the wiring and control box for the remote controls in behind the radio - one day I must take it out again and splice the power supply for the conrol box into the radio wires - this would reduce the wires and connectors by about 60%. Trouble was the interface unit and cable for the remote cost nearly as much as the radio
Works a treat though!
I've got a MK2 Xantia radio going spare if anybody wants it. No code though

No and I'm now locked out from entering any more codes. When I removed the radio I saw a barcode but no numbers below it. There were various numbers elsewhere on the label - Model, Serial, and some more so I've decoded them all and have a list waiting to try.uncle buck wrote:Any joy with the code calculator yet Mike ?

Yes I can do that but it looks like it isn't going to happen.reblack68 wrote:If you do have any luck can you tell me which numbers you used? I've got nowhere with the decoder either.

It's the last 4 numbers of the barcode you need to decode!MikeT wrote: ....When I removed the radio I saw a barcode but no numbers below it. There were various numbers elsewhere on the label - Model, Serial, and some more so I've decoded them all and have a list waiting to try.
...but if your locked out now it looks like you will have to have it sorted elsewhere

I see...I get it now.
I haven't actually used the radio decoder I just have it on my computer.
If I remember correctly when we done the radio from my mates pug 405 it was something like a 3 hour wait between being able to put codes in once you had tried a certain number of codes.
I hooked the radio up to a battery in the house & just let it sit there until the screen changed to let a new code be entered.
You could always take the radio to a place that decodes radios to save waiting for the log book to be returned or you could get your soldering iron out & have a go yourself like we did.

I've made a discovery, while chomping on a sandwich in the car. I'd turned the radio on at 12:30 (showing the four bars but not accepting any input) and left it until gone 15:30 but it still will not accept any codes.
Out of boredom and frustration, I removed the radio fuse F1 and pushed the ON/OFF button only to find the four bars appeared in the LCD which confused me a little until the display vanished - I guess it was running on residual energy for a few seconds?
Anyway, I replaced the fuse and thought I'd try the double button trick that many consumer electronics devices seem to employ. I held the BND down while I pressed the ON/OFF button and to my surprise, the LCD read CITROEN for several seconds and then showed U1 and a frequency and I could hear radio!!!!
BUT, it's accompanied by a beep every second and will cut out the radio then show the four bars again. If I turn off and repeat the two button push I get the radio back for a few minutes, albeit with the annoying beeps. At least I got to listen to the news today
