Saxo - steering gear rubber gaiters

hi,
the two steering gear rubber gaiters have worn out,
the one that's internal (at the left end - on the firewall) was easy to replace, but I can't manage to put on the other one (at the right end of the steering gear) sort of a cup slightly sticking out above the front right rwheel.
is there a trick to this?...
Haynes only writes about the internal one,

Done...

with a long nose pliers,
BTW lift the front right side with a jack to get better access,
