Xsara II plip reset

Unread post by keef1212 »

Hi all,

Since a temporary disconnect of the car battery my (3 button rf) remote plip won't operate the central locking. (Xsara II 1.4i 2002)

I have tried replacing the fob battery and following the instructions in the handbook to re-program..... ie, turn on ignition, press lock button for 10 secs, remove key, to no avail :(

Citroen say the code in the ECU must be lost - £65 to re-program (not for the transponder, the car starts fine).

I thought that the key programs the ECU for C/L, not the other way round ??

Is this a common problem ??

Any advice gratefully rec'd.

Have had a similar problem with our Xsara 1998 1.8 key for a while now too.
It still works fine except for the remote function. The sensor in the key is OK too as the ignition warning still operates if the key is near the ignition lock. I changed the battery twice to no avail. :? :x

Unfortunately it does seem to be a common problem on Xsara's, and the only solution is to get someone with the right computer (either a dealer or specialist) to plug it in and re-initialise it in the BSI. I had to have mine done a few months ago, it cost about £60 including getting the code from Citroen as the previous owner had lost the code card :(

In my case I think it was caused by someone (not me, long story!) disconnecting the battery terminal before the BSI had time to shut down properly.

Thx DickieG for ur kind offer of help.... :)

As u can see I have had to register again under a new name as I couldn't logon to reply after updating my email addy...... :?

I live in Croydon (would be worth the journey over), but I also don't have the code card (lost by previous owner), so I don't know if u can do it without that...

Would be nice to get the remote working again, but I've learned to live without it 8)

If your plip has stopped working & can't be reprogrammed without having to pay big bucks is it not worth buying a cheapish remote control car alarm that can be wired into the existing central locking!

Just have a look on ebay there's loads of them.
