CX spheres on the Xantia

While the CX is off the road getting work done by me I couldn't resist swapping the Xantia's front spheres for the Cx's. I was concerned that the higher pressure and larger volume of the CX pair would not go down well with the Xantia's weight and axle set up but the result was quite pleasing.

With 500cc spheres at 80bar and the CX's lower damping ratio the ride is really nice. It doesn't bottom out and although it appears to roll mildly more than standard, it's nothing on the Cx's roll and in fact the anti roll bar seems well suited to the CX spheres. It says a lot for the difference in ride and handling determined by the suspension set up (eg, McP struts with thicker roll bars) I feel that the Xania doesn't cope well with large, off centre bumps like speed bumps like the CX but with the CX spheres, the speed bumps were 'almost' up to CX standards in the Xantia, the rear feels a bit notchy now but CX rears are too time consuming to remove so they'll be staying put.

I'm gonna keep them on a while to test their performance longer term. I'll put the Xantia pair on the CX to see the result of that when it's back on its wheels (front arm bushings are being done at prez)

I take it that yours is a non hydractive Xantia, otherwise it would be very soft! I have comfort spheres on my XM which give very much the same effect. It may not corner so well but I am more interested in a comfortable ride, that's what Hydropnumatic Citroens were all about.

It's non hydractive so they transfer quite directly. I rekon they're better suiter to a heavier diesel engine with more gas to play with but I'll probbo change them back when the CX is ready
