Hi all, I was returning an LDV minibus I have been welding for MOT, when the owner took me to his friend's car.
It's a T reg Laguna 1.9td (indirect) and it won't start. The starter will turn the engine over, but no diesel comes out of the IP HP pipes. I have wired the stop solenoid to the battery +ive terminal and the solenoid works, but still no diesel is pumped. I reset the cut off switch thingy. The IP is getting fuel, plenty of it. The owner also tells me that the pump had diesel coming out of the timing plunger aperture when he removed the screw.
The owner has asked me to fix it. I've swapped a Lucas IP for a Bosch IP on my xud 306 and I am competent. I've rebuilt many petrol engines.
So I have the following questions:
1, Do I need any special tools?
2, Is the Cambelt easily removed or is there a mega torqued crank nut to crack?
3, Is the pump a bosch IP? (The timing aperture is on the end of the pump, on the head where the HP pipes exit, as is the stop solenoid, in a bosch style)
4, Are many different IPs fitted to this car?
5, Could any other electrical problems cause the pump to stop? (Immobiliser?)
6, How much should I quote to fit the new IP?
Thanks in advance!

Before you get yourself too deeply involved in replacing components that MAY not be faulty, you should extend your patience and look for ANY small chances of airleaks to the diesel pump. It is by far the most common problem on an IDI diesel - whatsoever.
Last resort is to replace the very nearest (to pump) bit of hose with a clear fuel hose, which clearly will show any air/bubbles. Nothing, nothing at all, is acceptable.
You can not be sure diagnosing by checking pressure from the HP lines. The pump may not provide any fuel if it can not correctly build up any pressure against the injector valve opening pressure.
The immobiliser system will give you hairpulling problems
- if you try replace the pump
