go 1.9 td and run on 49p a litre fuel

(runs away before V6 owners can get him)

I would not recommend buying a 2.1.
Just look at my thread "Poor Old 2.1" to see why.
I have spent a fortune on mine and it still will not run.
Sure, they are nice and powerfull when running but beware, it something goes wrong with the pump, we are talking big money as I have found to my cost.

If only it was easy to drop an XM mechanical pump onto a Xantia 2.1...or is it? Looking at Citrojims issues on a 1.9 (not as complicated as the EPIC system), there could be some serious learning ahead...

I guess the 2.1TD is in the same vein as an Activa - great until something goes wrong...

Phil,

having studied the electronics of the 2.1TD, they're very little more complex than the 1.9TD so the prospect of doing a mechanical pump conversion should be feasible. It just needs someone (xf8u?) to take the plunge and do some experiments

I'll really stick my neck out and say I reckon a Bosch AS3 as fitted to the 1.9TD will work with it's matching ECU in a 2.1TD with a spot of rewiring as once the armour is off, all the fuelling adjustments are accessible and it might be possible to adjust the AS3 to give the fuelling the 2.1 needs. A fully mechanical Bosch pump from the earlier Xantia 1.9TD or 405TD would be quite straightforward. The only niggle on the 2.1TD is that the speedo is driven from the ECU.

The big problem is, we need a dead 2.1 to experiment with

Today, I have been quoted £525 + VAT for a replacement EPIC
Absolutely ridiculous.

Another firm has quoted me £425 + VAT for repair (and they don't even know what's wrong with it yet)

Apparently, a brand new one is in the region of £700
How do they justify these extortionate prices? It's only a pump for god's sake. How many other pumps do you know of cost this much?

I'm tempted to buy a complete engine from breakers for half that price.

I'm just about peed off with this car now. It's pretty damn lucky for the car that I don't live near a cliff.... need I continue.

Somebody please find me an EPIC or a complete engine. Please, pretty please, I'll be your best friend!

the 2.0 SX he brought, he told me stepped out on a corner today at 45mph ?
Rear wheels look pretty vertical to me, tyres evenly worn, suspension seems fine both ends..

I mentioned first rains for a while, also diesel on road.. must admit I had a series one TD that was a bit tail happy, think it was riding high at the back.. but this one seems at the right level.. any thoughts guys?

As for changing to a mech fuel pump, I am sure it must be possible XF.. problem is your a bit sick and tired of all of it

If its not the arms or road conditions it could be rubbish tyres. I had some budget tyres once, sunny they were called. It was like driving on ice.

would it be possible to get a pump not from cit/pug/renault not sure on which other manufacturers use lucas not bosch

above link looks like it they are cheaper than you have been quoted but then you know what the symptoms are with yours

Thanks admiral, I have sent them an email. I wasn't aware of this immobilise issue with the pump if I were to replace it with one off another car. How big a problem is it?

I don't know exactly. I'd try to get the pump, ECU and keypad along with its code to be 100% certain.

It'll be interesting to see how much is being asked for these items.
