couple of daft questions!!!!!!

hi all
just a couple of questions

ive got a set of 15" wheels on my dead xantia and 14" on my good one--can i do a straight swop both are 1996 p plate dead one a 1.9td good one a 1.9d

ive also got 4 corner spheres and an anti-sink sphere all of which have been on dead car for about 6 months and i want to swop them also they are the correct type etc
i went to gsf to get new seals and was told they dont sell them--only supply with new spheres
any ideas as to where i can get the seals from and at what price

assume that seals are all round not square
and i need a seal for the top pipe on the anti-sink sphere

Sphere seals are square section seals. Circular section O-rings are not the correct sphere seal types.
If those spheres of your dead Xantia has sat for less than a year, I'd say you can readily re-use the seals no problems at all. Just make sure they are wetted with LHM or grease before fitting the spheres.

The antisink sphere pipe would have a standard 3.5mm Citroen pipe seal. Some £0.4/ea at GSF.

Obviously the wheels will fit either car but to get the speedo/gearing
correct it'll depend on the tyre width and profile of the tyre section.
Using a very handy link I found on this forum you can see the

HAS EXACTLY THE SAME OVERALL TYRE DIAMETER AS

195 55 15

IIRC my diesel Xantia estate runs 185 60 15's which are
7mm bigger than the 185 65 14's which is permissable.

You can reuse the sphere seals as Anders has already stated but just
make sure they're seated correctly in the ram shoulder and lubricated
with LHM to allo any slight slippage when all the faces are tightened
against one another.

Peter, you've just jogged my memory. I've heared that the 14" wheels are more comfortable. Mind you I have never driven a Xantia with 15's on it.

Colin, as Anders and Andrew have said as the seals are only a few months old they can be reused. If you feel that you want to buy new seals the Citroen dealer can supply them at £1.87 each - part no 527215

thanks for all the advice much appreciated im slowly coming to terms with some of the workings on the lovely xantia just still having trouble working out what part goes where on the tech drawings- should have paid more attention at school

the orion in question is no more but dont like to think of her that way

for those who know the road and approx distance here goes

left POOLE at 11.30pm and got as far as end of M6 at GRETNA at 4am when she decided to pump oil into air filter and had a coughing fit
approx distance was 400 miles and couldnt see smoke from exhaust due to being very dark
and that was in the days before the winchester bypass-newbury bypass and most of the M40 from oxford was opened

i was taking wife up to her mums in glasgow for a weeks holiday i had to stay for the week while i got another car sorted double whammy

do the spheres have an o ring in the neck and the shoulder it screws into has a square seal with a cicular section removed

i know all will be revealed when i take the first one off but i would like some reasurance of what i expect to see

Not sure what you're describing here!

There is only one o ring seal that is square in section!!

This sits in the square shoulder of the ally ram itself. The sphere
then threads onto this ram with a shoulder squared up to the
inner face of this o ring...

God, this sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is!
Basically, with the o ring sitting in position, the whole face of the ram
is actually one flush collar within hich the sphere thread is fed into.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking but how dead is your dead xantia. I am asking becauseif you are breaking for spares I could do with a front height corrector operating arm (the part attached by a clamp to the front anti-roll bar). I would of course re-imburse you. Thanks
