Hi,
I've recently purchased a low mileage Xsara HDI estate. It is in very good condition however, I've noticed that there is a bit of road noise being transfered through the front suspension. The is also a faint knocking when going over uneven surfaces.
The other problem with the car is that the catch on the glove compartment is broken, I've located a new glove compartment lid but I'm not sure how to remove the existing lid?
Apart from these issues the car seems spot on.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would likely need to be replaced regarding the suspension problems?
Thank you very much.
Regards

I expect the Xsara is similar to the ZX in which case the front suspension rattle is probably a failed drop link. As its on the anti-roll bar its really only under load when one wheel hits a bump - not both like a join in a concrete road or a speed hump. This may help you confirm the problem.
Drop links are available from GSF or Eurocarparts at a good price. (less than £20)
For years we ran out ZX on Contineltal Eco whatsits (176 65 x 14) - but 6 months ago we put Kleber's (made by Michelin) on the front and are amazed at the reduction in noise and improvement in ride comfort. Seems certainly the ZX is rather sensitive to tyres.

Finally replaced the droplinks on the HDI. What a nightmare the star drive and nut combination were to remove.howiedean wrote:I was thinking about swapping the fron wheels from my petrol xsara, I'll give that a try. Anyway I can't believe the difference that the new droplinks have made.
Cheers
