stupid question.... xantia glovebox

Unread post by weety »

sorry this is really dim but i cant work out how to take the glovebox out

the book of lies tells me to get the tang at the back of the box past the stop and then fully open the glovebox so that i can get at the mounting screws

well i carefully er levered the glovebox with a large blunt screwdriver (invaluable tool) and got the tang thingy past the stop but the glovebox still wont open

i havent broken anything (yet) but if anyone taken one of these off and knows what obvious point i have overlooked i would be grateful

Cheers

Lift the "carpet" in the bottom of the glovebox, and undo the screws you find under there, holding the glovebox to the hinges.

Yes the torx screws are at the extreme ends, push down on the felt and you'll feel a soft area underneath where the screws are.

I think there might be one on the rear face too, right at the corner.

Looks like they increased the size of the glovebox in the series 2 then! Thats a lot bigger and more rectangular than a series 1 "glovebox"

For real??? I thought the ones without airbags would have been bigger? Or do you have that other glovebox above the lower one to hold an extra set of gloves like the peugeot 306 has, or is it just a large orifice for sweets to roll around in?

And there was me trying to be clever!!

The "cup holders" are no good, many a times has hot chocolate turned over from that really deep and supportive 'cup holder'. I reckon they are really sweet holders, u know the travel sweets you get in metal tins, that come in tropical flavours.

the screw under the carpet at the bottom fooled me when i was changing the heater matrix, the glovebox in my 2.1td is tiny, my old 1.9td had a slightly bigger one.

How hard would it have been for the BOL people to actually tell us there were screws buried under the carpet? :x

He he Simon - the 'glove' box on Mk1 cars with passenger air bag is even smaller. It really is a glove (note use of singular!) box - I can't even get my wallet in there! Phone charger and alloy wheel bolt and that's about it

I managed to unscrew it WITHOUT lifting the carpet... :D    It was probably one of the worst hours of my life...

I didn't know the plastic can be bent so much without breaking... 8)
