Engine management lamp illuminated

Unread post by bernie »

The engine has gone into limp  mode, revs to just 2800 flat out :(

Just scanned the system returned a DTC PO243--Turbo wastegate solenoid malfunction

Before I head on down pass the cylinder head etc, has anyone had wastegate problems on their HDI before

bernie -

Is that the variable vane turbo solonoid ?
- as then it seems all HDI's are beginning to show up this problem in general these days.

I have'nt a clue whether it's fixed or variable vanes Anders. Interesting point about the problem showing now, could it be a weak spot?

Have you heard about any cures etc?

gets me thinking this problem :?

How does the ECU diagnose a solenoid malfunction?

Too much current being drawn or current drawn for too long without the expected change in boost?

Could it be it is detecting something wrong with the solenoid itself? I'm wondering if the solenoid has an encapsulated diode like the Hydractive Electrovalve. Might this be the cause of the problem?

With luck, it might be just a wiring problem.

Try a search on both the Cit & peug fora here - using the term 'variable vane'.
Some members have already seen the same problem with the HDI turbos.

A 2000 110bhp Hdi has a normal turbo, but with an ECU controlled waste gate. This uses vacuum to drive a waste gate actuator capsule via an electrovalve.

This problem is probably lack of vacuum due to carbon build up in the fine bore in the connector at the vacuum pump. Clean it out with a 1 mm drill, a bit of steel wire, or a fine paper clip. Disconnect the other end of the tube from the electrovalve also, and check that, after cleaning, you can blow through it.

Yeah deffo check for carbon build up in the pipes aswel, blow throught them all with compressed air. also could be the electrovalve itself, swap it with the EGR one as they are both identical.

I never thought that preforming a fix could be so easy on a Citroen.

Turns out to the solenoid itself and it's right on top the engine with a spare one next to it

Swopped over the leads and a fault occurs on the EGR, result

The hardware/software bundle from UKOBD was worth it's weight in gold (about £75). It pointed to the fault straight away and cleared the fault lamp.

BTW I've left the EGR totally disconnected. Power back on, now for a tuning module :D

What package did you get?. I have tried some eobd software with an elm based interface on a 2001 synergie HDI and a 2003 C5 90 bhp HDI without success

They do not seem to sell the model I bought but it's probably been updated and this is the closest

Mine is ELM/ISO with serial port and FULL Digimoto v5 software.
Email them to enquire, they are very friendly and helpful

Does anyone happen to know what units might be compatible with the 2.0i 8 valve petrol engine in my Xantia ? (Preferably a "yes I've used such and such on that engine successfully" not a "well, such and such says it SHOULD work" ;) )

I have intermitant poor performance on mine (approx 20% loss in power but otherwise runs ok) which I suspect is an intermitant sensor fault - most likely the knock sensor based on symptoms, but I would like to prove it.

Trouble is nobody within a 100 mile radius of where I live has a compatible engine diagnostic computer!!! ("Oh, no our gear doesn't support those poogo engines....")

Any suggestions ?

It doesn't really bother me a lot, but every now and then the performance on my car really jumps up for no apparent reason and I then realise how flat it had been before that...

Simon

Anything for a the 3.0 V6 ES9J4 engine... it would run a Bosch MP7.0 or 7.2 i think. I could do with a diagnosticy thing too.

Thanks
