307 HDI Problem

Hi folks , first post here , I've just been told about this forum over on 205gti drivers . Looks like there's loads of info here & it will be useful to me as I've driven pugs all my life .

Anyway , back to the subject . My brother-in-law has a very nice 307 sw 110 bhp HDI but it's been giving him a lot of recent problems .

First of all the fuel addidive light came on & he refilled it & then gave the pug stealer another £40 to reset the ecu .

Next the turbo developed a loud whine which I diagnosed as the turbo bearings . I haven't the facilities to change the turbo so he got an independant pug specialist to fit a 2/h turbo supplied by them . Noise was still there & they checked several other things before finally admitting that the 2/h turbo was duff . Ended up fitting a new turbo & his total bill was nearly £900 , most of it labour !

Now the warning light for the particulate filter has came on & he's worried about the cost of replacing that . After seeing a few posts on this forum I thing we'll have a go at washing it and see what happens .

But the problem that's concerning him the most is the rising oil level in the sump ! Yes , instead of dropping the oil level is slowly rising ! Is it possible in the HDI engines for diesel to get into the oil ? I'm more familiar with the old XUD setup & know little about HDI's . Is there any other possible cause for this ?

As it happens I took the particulate filter off my 307 today and cleaned it. Blew it out with compressed air from the back end. Got about a dessert spoonfull of white ash out. This might not have brought it back to the "as new" condition, but it must have helped.
As for the oil level, don't know, are you sure you have not got water in the oil? this will go to the bottom of the sump. The other thing to do is to check the viscosity of the oil, it will be VERY thin if contaminated with diesel.
Either way, best to change the oil and filter.
