Dunlop SP Sport 200 E

Hi,

I'd highly recommend the Dunlop SP Sport 200E on the Xantia's, i got them for the front today £50 each from local National Tyres.

Initial thoughts are: they are super quiet, and drive really well over puddles and surface water, grip the corners quite well in the wet too, but as they are new things may change, but for the price, you can't go wrong

Hi Deian, I hope these tyres ARE good, I've just put a full set on my
XM V6 24V.

My sister has had Dunlops fitted on her XM for years though I've never
actually driven her car enough to properly road test them though they seem
to wear well - it's an 8v 2.0i so not quite the same to drive as the V6...

Passed with no advisories, yay for the Xantia, i must clean it and inspect what looks like rust on the door sides.

Andrew, let me know if you get your wheel balanced with the new tyres, the guy that fitted mine said they don't need balancing because they have a 'solid centre'!(????)... problem is it's shaking as if it DOES need balancing. The guy said to balance them it's a lot of hassle as it means taking the balancing machine appart to change something... personally I think he is a lazy git, he also said let them bed in before balancing. Is all this true?

Excellent news. My TD SX flew through a month ago

The bit about balancing and solid centres is rubbish. Of course they need balancing. It is hassle as they have to mount up a special wheel adaptor on their balancing machine. They'll have one but as you say, can't be bothered! Also, the operator has to know what he is doing when mounting the adaptor to ensure it is running true.

Both my Activa and GTi have solid centres and our local man seems to have no real problem with them (except to moan about them) but obviously many do if my Activa was anything to go by. It had the most amazing array of weights on it when I got it and shook like anything. It came back nicely balanced and surprising few weights attached.

I have Dunlop SP Sports on my GTi. I love 'em...

You need to locate a GOOD tyre fitter who understands how to use the balancing attachment for solid centre wheels that came with his balancing machine. In my opinion, solid centre wheels are a right pain in the a**e with no benefits whatsover.

well what i ended up doing was going to my local garage (who don't specialise in tyres, but are mechanics) and they did all four wheels for me, the car is now spot on... so what are 'solid centre' tyres, and why are they so much trouble?

Not solid centre tyres.... solid centre wheels i.e the wheels do not have a hole in the centre which would normally locate over a spigot on the balancing machine

As an ex Dunlop employee I always tend to buy Dunlop and the SP Sport 200e in my opinion is an excellent tyre and suits my V6 superbly...

will def try these

I stupidly brought a pair of 200mile used (nancooks or something), look nice tho) tyres from ebay, but they were 206 55! 15 ;s... a bit too low i think

I had two new tyres fitted to my c5 and took it for balancing to kwik fit they have the special adaptor,However i was going to france the week after and didn't have time to blast down the motorway to try them.when i set off to france the damn wheels were wobbling at 70mph i was livid i went to two kwikfits in portsmouth but they didn't have the adaptor so i finished up doing two weeks in france with a wheel wobble.When i came home i went straight down and gave them a talking to lol they redid the wheels and they are fine now.

i'm not keen on the big chains you know, they are ok for prices sometimes, but the quality of service isn't there in my opinion... i you go to a mechanic who does his job for a living he has to give you the quality too or he doesn't get the bread on the table

he said he could do £50 each if someone else locally could.. makes you wonder what they make on tyres...

hmmm.. not sure i want to pay that..
