XUD9 Turbo (head query)

Unread post by Sturdybloke »

Well, I finally started on the head on the Xantia (about time its not moved in 9 months!!!). When I removed the head and started to strip it on the kitchen floor I noticed that one of the combustion chambers (No 1 cambelt end) has a hole in it that has some relation to the "bolt" that is on the outside of the head near the fuel injector.

When I stripped the head off my Rover (1769 XUD) it had the same outer bolt but I am sure that there was no hole???

Any idea on what its for (I left it in the head while its gone for a skim) as i'm a little curious?

Its a gauge hole for a dial gauge rod, to precisely determine TDC of piston 1. Used for the necessary precise timing of the diesel injector pump.
I'm sure there is a similar hole as well on the 17TD.
