Unread post by SimonT »

Just aquired a nice turbo to recondition ready to fit to my car when the weather eventually gets better.
Anyone out there know where I can buys a service kit with all the seals etc for the turbo unit?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

The kits for Garrett worked out at around £25 when I last looked a couple of years ago but properly fitting and balancing the things is specialist stuff, they seem to have a rig which feeds oil under pressure to the bearings and they spin them up using compressed air.

Hi simon, Before you spend time and money on this turbo swap.. are you sure the old one is u/s ? they rarely fail, and there are a few things that can affect their proper operation.. eg boost leaks, blocked fuel filter, extra fuel device air line leaking and a few I've forgotten -but others more knowledgable here can tell you. best wishes Martin. ( ps. to get the turbo off, its almost always easier to remove the entire inlet manifold I think! )
I won't do that again
