petrol in a diesel tank 306 TD

Unread post by jgra1 »

chaps.. a friend has done this..

about 5 litres of diesel in tank, and probably 30 litres unleaded added..

Used the primer bulb to remove all fuel...

She thinks it's all out.. how long will the after effects last? (white smoke)

Will it have damaged the fuel pump? (Bosch I think)

Can the fuel be re-used? (i.e. do petrol and deisel mix or would some of the petrol be saveable?) - I have an old petrol vehicle that I would risk tyhe fuel in..

thanks as always

My wife did this twice in her Mondeo TD.1st time was about 10 ltrs of petrol, the 2nd was a fuel tank of petrol. Both times i drained the fuel tank using the primer pump, fitted a new filter & it ran fine.A bit chuggy & smokey for a few days, but soon sorted its self out.Its still running fine over 3 yrs later, now owned by her brother.

The petrol should be perfectly ok to use, the old two stroke engines used to run on anything up to a 50/50 mix of petrol and oil with no problems apart from faint blue exhaust smoke.. :-)

Your mix is less than 20% oil so should run ok..

A vehicle run on this mix may run a bit lean - using too much oil in a 2-stroke mix could do the same. Keep an eye out for overheating just in case.

it should be ok to use the petrol only in car pre cat and or engine managment systems,if you run it in a car with a cat you risk fouling up the cat and lambda sensor,i know someone who tried it in an Lreg cavalir did not like it one bit, should be fine in carb engines
