Heater blower problem

Unread post by Saw Doc Fan »

When wired up as it should be my heater blower does not work.
Replaced the resistor, still does not work.
There is power going into the switch but still doesn't work.
Fuse is ok.
Wired directly to a toggle switch it only works when on full blast.
Can anyone shed any light on what's wrong?
This is a N reg Xantia 1.9 TD

Does the replacement resistor come from a wreck ?
Don’t they all pack up in the same way ?
With a bit of luck, this is a 170ºC thermal fuse, and would cause the lower speeds not to work.

It's got a brand new resistor in.
So thats definatly not the problem...

There is power going into the switch but still doesn't work.
The fan switch is fed from the ignition switch, and it’s common for it to fail when the fan draws high current.
Without the motor current, it will have 12 Volts.
Wired directly to a toggle switch it only works when on full blast.
The toggle switch has another input feed, and the resistor is still fed from the ignition switch, causing loss of the lower speeds.
At full blast, the resistor is bypassed.
Maybe try with a test lamp on the motor feed wire with the motor connected and set to spin.

Done all that and still have the problem
Maybe it's the 4 speed blower switch at fault
Will investigate more...
