Hdi engine oil

Is semi synthectic 10/40 engine oil good for my 110 Hdi?
I only ask as both the Haynes & Peugeot hand book dont mention a grade.

Should be found in your owners booklet.

I'd say that a semisynt 10W40 is a very good choice. Go by the "old school" and replace the oil at 6Kmiles intervals, whatever recommandations found. Then you're sure the engine will run on clean oil always.

Note however that the latest cars are quite stringent in oil grade specs. Like VW's which requires 5w30synt as minimum grade spec.

Thanks Anders.Got some 10/40 semi synthetic.The handbook & Haynes does`nt say a grade.Any thing up to 20/50

!Depending on use.My 10/40 meets the specs in the book(B3 ACER(?)etc.
I`m going to service it more often anyway.12K to long for me.Maybe every 8-10k.Depending on my mileage.
Off to service it now & fit new front disks & pads.

Managed to get some 5/40 fully syn for it.£36

Theres a seller on Ebay who sells loads of oil.4/5 x 5 ltrs,& 25 ltr drums.He has some 5/40 f/syn.It meets all the specs etc.£53 for the 25 ltr drum.Will ask him if its suitable for diesels.

Just as a quick reminder, some of the 110 HDi's were fitted with a particulate filter and these engines must only use 5W/40 fully synthetic oil! It's also worth noting that Halfords own fully synth meets the B4 spec (most only reach B3) and its very good value, it's what my HDi's have been used on!

Read about that in the handbook,but luckly mine has no p/filter.The oil i got is Comma SYNER-Diesel 5w/40 f/syn.Meets ACEA,A3,B3,B4 API CF.
Will check out Halfords own.I used to use their 10/40 semi syn in the Xantia,but it started getting expensive,so switched to Comma s/syn.£4 cheaper in my local factors.
Do you know how much the f/syn is/was Rossd?

Well I got it when it was on a half price offer, which seems to be several times a year, you can get it for 16.99 then, normal price is the normal 29.99 halfrauds rip off though! Usually christmas, easter and sometimes during the summer they seem to put it on offer!

In my Xantia I'm running Total 7000 semi which is what the book said, cost about £12 for 5 litres. However GSF sell Total 9000 fully synth for £15.

Cheers Steve.Will certainly look into it when i service it again.Its a bit cheaper than £36!
