xm xm2 window winder

Unread post by nino1 »

It's window winder whoes again.
I tried a couple of switches and jiggle/clean the contacts under the door trim.
So this looks like a failed motor, and since a new one from citroen is nasty on the price i'd like to make an attempt to repair it with some help from somene who does this kind of stuff.

At the final connector on the motor/electronics i get two powered lines, but no
movement of the motor itself. I can see no obvious problems, and the winder did work from time to time (slamming the door helped).
Also i see a suprising amount of electrics in the black box attached to the motor (the connector goes into it).

Any advice, shematics, pics... would appreciate it a great deal

Tnx.

Cant help with the schematic, as the Haynes manual only shows the control unit as a box with wires coming out!. If you are prepared to forgo the auto open shut facility, a winder unit from any other door would suit.

The motor itself only has two connections so try applying 12 volts across them and see if the motor works, but disconnect the plug from the wiring first! If that is OK try dismantling the control unit, it probably contains a relay, check for poor connections/dry joints.

I think these motors may have an overload cutout in them and that this may give trouble. I know Haynes for the BX shows contacts in each motor, and that I have a passenger one that always sticks when I go on holiday in it. A well placed thump gets it going again which may be confirmation of the switch.

I can't believe they wear out so probably a good internal clean and a biit of TLC could be all it needs. Remember to re-seal it somehow if the seals are broken in getting it apart.

I'd be looking for switches with dirty contacts, sticky brushes and dried lubrication.

I'll hand it over to an expert, so we will see...
The good part i recon is the fact it did work on occasion.

Anyhow what are the chances of locating the shematics?

Haynes in fact show considerable detail of the one touch system fitted to the BX in their manual. You may find more details for the XM in Haynes - but this will only be the circuits.

I don't suppose there is much information on the winder motor itself - as it will be treated as a throw away item by all but experts - who wouldn't pay for a manual anyway - as I'm sure its just like every other motor when you get inside.

I don't know about the S2, but I repaired the drivers window winder on my S1 XM TD12.

Mine had stopped due to an idiotic design feature - there is a breather hole in the motor casing - and its pointing UPWARDS! (on the driver side- opp on pass) so water gets in and you know the rest. It's def a throwaway design - the motor can only be accessed by bending up small metal tags that hold a cover in place. But if youre careful it can be taken apart and cleaned up and reassembled.
