1997 Xantia Instrument Panel Removal

Unread post by David Goddard »

I want to remove the instrument panel as two bulbs have failed (air temp. and headlamp dip). Actually, I will change them all when I have the panel out.
I'm OK with removing the steering wheel and air bag, and have found the screws securing the instrument panel. But cam oncerned about the speedo.
On other cars I have had a problem with disconnecting the speedo drive cable. Do 1997 Xantia's have a flexible drive cable, or is it an "electric" drive? Looking under the bonnet, I can't see a drive cable going through the bulkhead.
Comments would be appreciated.

Hi, My 1997 (built) Activa has an electronic speedo. I managed to get the instrument panel out without removing the steering wheel when I did the bulbs about a year ago.

If I remeber correctly, some Xantias had cable drive, some electronic. If you drive in reverse and the speedo registers a positive speed, and/or the mileometer shows a positive distance, you've got an electronic speedo. Cable drive winds the distance off!
