Turbo test

Post by CANDO »

I have never had a TD vehicle MOT tested.
Am I right in thinking that apart from obvious noise or oil leaking that a MOT emission test will show up a faulty Turbo charger?

Don't know. Just a thought.
What is the best way to test?

Fit a temporary or even a permenant boost gauge and drive away, noting the pressures obtained during hard acceleration and steady cruising.
Other than that listen for warbling sounds from the exhaust and look for blue oil smoke, especialy when starting and at tickover.

Thanks for that dave.
I going to look at a 405 today so I'll go for the sound/smoke test.
I recall someone telling me to floor the pedal after a 5min idle and hold it there and check for noticeable amounts of blue or grey smoke.
Any thoughts?
