Xantia Steering Swivel Joint: GSF part No?

I've got a bit of play in one of my steering swivel joints on the Xantia.

I've just looked at GSF to order a new one and their descriptions are less than good.

Is it N42414 BALLJOINT?

I also want to replace the track rod ends and guess these are what they call tie rod ends N43606 and N43608...

ball joint on ebay no 180005240670.
picture and description,
i got mine there and got it fitted at a garage after i stripped the hub down first tho.

also eurocarparts.co.uk......same price......ebay just had a special tool for removing ball joint i think they relisted it cos it didnt sell, it was only £3...just tap in 'citroen tools'in the tools and garage equipment section.

I got one from this source. 1st class delivery. Put it on today and the magic carpet is back in evidence

The old ball joint was incredibly tiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggghhhhhhhht

Thought at one point I was going to have to take the hub to our local Citroen specialist with tail between my legs but a bit of heat and a very long breaker bar did it in the end. The Sealey special tool must be made of some very stout stuff to have endured the abuse I gave it today

its not good to use heat on the hub as it can travel up into the hub bearing and destroy the grease,then the next thing you will need a new bearing

I was very gentle with the heat. I used as little as I could and made sure it did not get too hot around the bearing.. Heres hoping..

Anyway, at 182,000 miles, it most likely won't be too long before bearings will be needed and after that balljoint, bearings will be a walk in the park

Interestingly, I was advised to use heat by our local Citroen specialist... Perhaps he enjoys relacing wheel bearings

jim,i just done my bearing at the same time as the ball joint i also had to take it to the garage to press old bearing and wheel hub carrier in as its not for the faint hearted, tried to be clever and press bearing in myself and wrecked 2 new bearings doing it....still was cheaper than taking it to citroen tho they wanted £180 +vat and wouldnt use my bearing as they wanted to provide it themselves so i reckon it would have been about £250...i did mine for about £60 including my 2 wrecked bearings...i definately will know what to do next time.

No wonder they're called Stealers. That is daylight robbery for a fully equipped garage to charge that

How much did the garage (an Indie I guess) charge to press the bearings?

I've done a few 205 front wheel bearings in the past and know from my own trials there is no substitute for a hydraulic press. luckily I have access to one and slowly, on these dark eveings I'm also building a homebrew one. The first time I pressed out bearings I took a pal with me to the workshop as he expressed an interest. He was so shocked by the enormous BANG as the old bearing let go at about 6 tons pressure he literally flew across the workshop

For some reason he was never so enthusiastic after that

Malcolm, I inspected the old grease remaining in the old joint and the amount of heat I used did not seem to have killed that so fingers crossed

local village garage...charged me £10...they decent guys only 2 off them...they will do anything for you and don't charge the earth...you get coffee and conversation from them...miles from nowhere but you can rely on them always....they even come down to your house and work on the car there if its not driveable ....this is rural wales for you.
