Got myself ( another ) new motor..

Going up in the world, just bought a P reg 406 LX 2.1TD with Aircon ( just ready for winter

). However, it does have a PAS leak, but then what's new, my current 405 does !

Assuming I can collect it this week ( it's in London, I'm in Derbyshire ), my current waggon will be going to the local auctions on either Friday or Monday.

Perhaps if Mr Burns is around he'd like to pop along and read the 405 it's last rights at CCA !!

First priority is an aircon topup using what's left in the can from my last 405 with aircon. If that works, I may treat it to a professional re-charge !

I'm so happy, a semi-decent car at last, and quite a rare engine combination as well, although with large hands, I don't relish tinkering in the engine bay

Bloody hell, this thing has bags more torque compared to the 405 TD, and it's so much more refined in the drive-train, helped presumably by the drive-by wire throttle.

I went to change up into 5th yesterday after overtaking, to find I was in 5th. ahem..

The only downside really is the bodywork, which looks like it's been in a meteor shower. It's been a taxi in the past, but I've got loads of receipts so I'm fairly confident it's genuine mileage, it's had regular belt and pump changes, newish clutch and exhaust, so it should last a while

Oh, and it doesn't have the ABS which the seller put in the ad

Out of interest what did the 405 make at the auction?Last time i went down there the cars werent fetching much,didnt you fancy a private sale for a better price?

Hope the 406 is as good a workhorse as the 405,there have been grumbles on here in the past.

Well, the 405 made £250, but when you take off the £30 entry fee, and the commission ( min=£40), I'm looking at £180.

It cost me £320 on ebay about 6 months ago. The chap said the head gasket was fine, it wasn't, and that's where the love affair started to go down hill, top it off with a PAS leak and I decided to get rid with the above problems ( but also with a few knocks ).

The 406 has some known issues - the speedo problem, aircon needs charging ( I think because it doesn't blow cold ), some dents, and leaking PAS

but I knew about all these before I bought it.

Was piddles me off a little is that the chap had it advertised with ABS, which it clearly does not have.
