My problem is this. I have a 98 Megane with the following Auto gearbox problem. Recently, within the last 6 months when I put the selector in drive nothing happens. I need to rev the engine slightly and then it jumps into gear. This will happen about 40% of the time. It never happens in Reverse. Apart from that the gearbox is a joy to use when it is in drive. Short journeys and Motoways are effortless. I have approached a garage, who say that it is the gearbox that needs changing. They are quoting around the £1300. Is it possible to fix a problem like this or is it really a new gearbox thats needed?
Thanks in advance for any advice given...

you MAY be able to remove the gearbox and track down what has gone wrong inside but they are so complicated, automatic box's, that unless your experienced you wouldnt have a clue wot to do. try hunting down an autbox specialist near you, could be a selector problem, i had it sometimes on my old R5 Auto and just wiggled it about in drive and it would select it

My Scenic has just started the same problem. Did changing the fluid fix it?

The answer is no! The car runns a lot smother, but the problems still exist.
