XANTIA ALARM

Unread post by WELSHVIKING »

Hi all,
Started having a problem with the xantia alarm, for the last week or so it has started giving me false alarms approx 2-3 a day. I knew the ultrasonic sensors were knackered so i bought a couple from fleabay for £5, fitted them both and hey presto a working alarm with both ultrasonic sensors working 100%...GREAT...well thats what i though then last night a false alarm and again today...and before anyone asks nobody was near the car trying to break into it and sometimes the alarm goes off when the car is securly locked in the garage....Any ideas would be appericiated.....Thanks !!!

Alarm

Unread post by goldfinche »

Hi Yep have had that problem it turned out that under the front passenger carpet their are some multi plugs and these were soaking wet and corroded, all dried out the plugs and sockets de- corroded and coated with vaseline and wraped in plastic bags and that cured the problem.
There was no sign of any wetness on the carpet it was only when it was lifted that the water could be seen.
Cheers.
Geoff.

Hi All,
The latest on the alarm problem still getting false alarms, what i have done is :-

1 Checked black box under passenger seat, all perfectly bone dry and connections cleaned and refitted although they actually did not need cleaning.

2 Fitted 2 ultrasonic sensors working 100%

3 Checked inside the car for spiders / insects but none to be found

4 Fitted new fuse

I am now running out of ideas, i am only locking the car with the key fully so the deadlocks activate. One thing i have noticed is if i pull out fuse 15 ( the alarm live feed ) the alarm stops working but also i cannot get the deadlocks to work ..strange is this how it is suppose to be....Colin

How do you know that "Fitted 2 ultrasonic sensors working 100%" is the truth ?
The most common cause of false alarms in Xantia is - exactly the ultrasonic sensors.

Hi Anders,
The old ultrasonic sensors i took off were no good at all, did not sense anything completely knackered but i was still getting false alarms, the 2 sensors i put on are working as they should do as in they are going off when i sit in the car and put my hand past them...but still i am getting false alarm, it may be the sensors but how do i know without replacing them again and again and again etc etc

just ideas here but....

maybe the sensors need adjusting (movement wise), there is a way to align them so as not give false alarms, i'm not sure how they are supposed to go now as i always get confused about how they work, maybe someone can clarify more.

I doubt spiders would cause such false alarms. Maybe elephants, but i'm sure the alarm manufacturers designed it around spiders so they can get away with such intrusion, also the windows are all closed? no draughts? the sensors are close to windows yea.

good luck

Me and the BIL can use the deadlocks even with the fuse taken out of the alarm socket.

When I purchased the car the fuse wasnt there, fitted it and it worked fine for about 15 mins. My very first proper alarm with flashing lights  however it started going off and quickly took the fuse back out .

Never did like alarms.

But the deadlocks still work in the Xantia even with the alarm fuse removed.

If you're ok with soldering and gluing you can replace the ultrasonic sensors with generic replacements which cost under £20 for the pair.

I did exactly that a year ago and mine has been working perfectly since, as documented in this thread:

Note: this is for a Series 2 Xantia factory fitted alarm and may not be applicable to Series 1.
