2.2 HDI

Hi to all.Been away a long time,now back home from Cornwall for a while.
Hopefully in the next few weeks i shall be selling my Xantia.Sticking with French cars though.Thinking about getting a Peugeot 406 est 2.2 HDI.I know about these as my Dad`s on his 2nd(110) after a 90 bhp.
Not sure about the 2.2 though.Anything to watch for on these engines,or HDI`s in general.

The 2.2 136 bhp HDI isnt as nice to drive as the 2 litre 110 bhp HDI, Its kinda rough

Ask any Peugeot / Citroen technician & they will tell you the same

IIRC doesn't the 2.2 have the particulate filter, with all that entails such as Eolys fluid etc etc

Whereas the 2.0 doesn't

Thanks for the replys.I`ve think i`ve made my mind up on as late as possible 406 est executive 2.2 hdi.I like the thought of 136bhp,with the possibility of upgrading to 160 bhp .Looked at the site that Kev suggested on Citroen forum.It all seems pretty straight forward enough for the filter.
Hopefully i shall have about £6800 plus what i get for my Xantia.Will be going on Ebay for about £800 i think.
I might buy a BOL`s as they do 1 for the later 406`s now,have a look through it.
I may still go for a 110bhp HDI yet ,but which ever,it must be in China blue

Make sure you have a nice long drive in a 136 bhp HDI before you buy.

You might find the 110 bhp HDI a better car to drive

One thing to check on a Executive is that the heated seats still work, They burn out very easily because of the lack of a decent thermal cutout.

Switch the ignition on so the STOP light is lit up.

Stick you ear next to the whirring fan for the cabin temp sensor.

Switch a seat heater on, The whirring should slow down, Turn it off again, Whirring should speed up.

Repeat for seat number 2.

If they aint working then knock some money off

Being an estate it wont suffer from the drowned cd changer problem the saloon does

Thanks for the tips Powerlee.I think i will try to find an Executive,as insurance for a 2002 52 Exc is £437,for a 2002 52 GTX is £426.
On the subject of the 2.0 110,my Dad has an 2003 53 SE.I had that for 3 weeks last summer & found it very pleasing to drive,& it towed our caravan fine,power wise.Although his has 16" alloys with 205/55/16 tyres,which i found gave quite a harder ride than the other 406 est`s i`ve driven,& the 90 bhp est he had before his current 110,which had the 195/60/15`s tyres on.The other thing,do you know if the Executive has drivers lumber control on the seat?My Dad`s got half leather seats & no lumber control,with i found gave me a bit of back ache after long stints on the motorway.I hav`nt looked at any yet,not untill my £££`s ar ready.The lease company want £6200 for my Dad`s car now,but in Oct when i goes they reckon more like £5800.It will have about 55k on it.But its not China blue,but a very silvery pale blue

.I did beg him to get this car in China blue when got it in 2003 with a view to buying it after 3 yrs,but he did`nt

I know the Executives got electric seats, Drivers should have 3 memory settings too, I would think theres a manual lumber control wheel on the side of both front seats but I cant be 100% sure, I would be shocked if an Executive didnt have lumber control.

Silvery pale blue sounds like DELFT blue to me

I've got an exclusive and it does have lumber support on the seats. Lumber, height, rake, forward and back movement are all electric and controlled by three switches.

The seats are electric on my GLX, although they don't have the memory settings that the Executive trim level has. I think after 2000 or so, anything from LX upwards had the electric seats.

Hi to all.Going to buy my Dads car after all now.To good to miss.£5500-£6000 for a `03/53 Hdi 110 SE est,with half leather,sat nav,cruise control,etc,with no more than 55K miles,with new tax,tyres,service etc,all done just before i will get it.
I can live with the minor iritations i think.That way i will get an car with known history & 1 that has been very well looked after.
After looking around,it would seem a very good price for the age & milage.Just have to wait untill Oct now when he gets his new 407.

I thought Delft- and China-blue were the same - delft-ware being a form of chinaware (crockery that is).

I have seen newer 406's in a shade of blue only slightly darker than the Moonstone-blue that was used on 306's. The perfect colour for 306's, and not at all bad in the slightly darker version on 406's.

China blue is a dark metalic blue, Nearly as dark as blur de rhodes.

Delft blue is a light silvery metalic blue.
