Heater Blower Problem. Can you help and identify this Part!!

Hi All

2000 2l Hdi Xantia. Air Con model.

Have an ongoing problem with the heater blower being continuously on as soon as you turn on the ignition.
Have followed the advice on the forum and replaced the two transistors on the blower, but that has not solved the problem. The blower still goes on full blast!

I bought a part off e-bay that was advertised as ‘if your heater blower is on full, this is the part you probably need’ !!

This part consists of what appears to be a perforated metal ‘cover’ containing a couple of steel coils and a resistor. It is all on a three-inch circular black plastic base.

The thing is, I am not sure what this part does, where it goes, or even if it’s suitable for my car!! If it is likely to be the culprit, could someone kindly give me some advice?

I believe that is for the earlier Xantia which didnt have a 'built in' resistor. I have replaced resistors on both my Xantia's (1999 & 2000), with mixed/temporary results. In the end I bought a replacement blower off ebay for £15.0 (don't forget the Peugeout ones fit as well). And you need one which is A/C compatible.

Interesting about the Peugeout blower. Is that from any particular model ie 406 (as long as it has AC)?

If it looks like this, I thought it was meant to be the 3-speed regulator for the non-air-conditioned Xantia.

It’s a three-step dropping resistor that can cause the fan to blow flat-out when the 170ºC thermal fuse blows.
As an experiment, try bridging the fuse shown.
If the blower has electronic speed control, it's got 4 wires.
Hope I got this right.

I would seem that the Pug 405/406 etc follow a similar pattern of modifications as the Xantia's (logical I suppose). The best way I found was to take a pic of mine and compare with others. I found only slight differences between Pugs and Xants with A/C e.g. connector fixings which are easilly worked around (even between my yr 2000 Xant and my 1999 Xant. The blower currently in my V6 is from a 1998 406 which would have been a straight swap for my 1999 Xant but required slight spade connector mod for my 2000 V6
